“80 CUBED”

Enclosed
to close; hem in; surround; envelop

Compartmented
division or part divided off; section; a small space within a large enclosed area, often separated by partitions

To explore the meaning and definition of two descriptive words in order to inform the design of a 80 x 80 x 80mm cube. Investigations into how these words could influence the interpretation of the spaces within this site. Examinations into the transparency and opaqueness of materials. The effects of colour versus clarity and wall thickness were all scrutinised. The outcome reveals a combination of enclosed and compartmented spaces that examines the influence of transparency and opacity in the interpretation of both exterior and interior spaces. All coloured planes are mirrored by corresponding transparent planes which form identical enclosed and compartmented spaces. These combine to create the “803” where interpretation in read in colours and transparencies.
